120 Lucky Winners

Middle Village Prep (MVP) conducted its first lottery for its inauguration class on Tuesday, April 16, 2012.  MVP is a charter middle school serving grades 6 through 8, whose goal is to provide a small-school experience in a nurturing environment.

“We are excited to welcome MVP’s first 120 students,” said MVP Principal Rivera.  “MVP will give District 24 students the opportunity for a vigorous academic schedule in a small classroom environment, which will prepare them for academic success in a high school of their choice.”

The lottery is the admissions process required by New York State that is held when there are more student applications to a charter school than seats available. Students are randomly selected from all applicants for admission by lottery. Students who are not selected from the lottery will be placed on a waiting list. More than 175 incoming sixth graders applied for admission to MVP.

Students at MVP will have longer school days and increased classroom instructional time in Mathematics and English Language Arts.  Science, Social Studies, the Arts, Physical Education and Health, along with time allocated for enrichment and extracurricular activities will round off MVP’s daily schedule.  All students at MVP will study Latin to strengthen and build their vocabulary skills.

The first day of classes at MVP will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
