The International Society of Saints Cosma and Damiano this year celebrates its 35th anniversary, having been founded in 1978 by the late Joseph DeCandia Sr. His devotion to the saints and to the mission of having them infused in the communities he loved, lived and worked in has resulted in the realization of his lifelong dream.
Each year for the last two decades the society has hosted an annual dinner dance at which they award gifts to different charities, both locally based and some out of state. Since the organization achieved its nonprofit status in 1990, the Society has raised and donated in excess of 1.5 million dollars to an extensive array of charities, all of which focus on serving the needs of underprivileged children or those who suffer from illness.
This year the Society honored Joseph Mure, an esteemed criminal attorney for over 25 years as thier Italian-American Man of the Year. Mr. Mure is also a member of the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The Board of the Society is joined by Joseph DeCandia Jr and Mr. Frank Russo.
