Man Charged With Shooting Up South Jamaica Party

Police nabbed a Queens man on the run in North Carolina, and he has been charged with 11 counts of attempted murder and other crimes after allegedly going on a shooting spree at a backyard barbecue in South Jamaica, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said this week.

Tyrone “Big Rumbles” Miller, 22, who is only identified as living in Queens, is now being held in North Carolina and awaiting extradition to New York, where he will be arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to Brown.

Miller was at a backyard barbecue on Inwood Road in South Jamaica early in the morning of Aug. 27, 2011 when he allegedly got into a verbal dispute with another individual and stated, “I’ll be back,” according to the DA. The man then returned to the party about 10 minutes later with two other individuals and all three allegedly opened fire with pistols, Brown said. Eleven people at the party were transported to area hospitals and treated for gunshot wounds to their bodies, including a 14-year-old girl who was struck in the back by two bullets that severed her spine and left her paralyzed from the waist down, according to the DA.
