Eric Ulrich walked into a screaming crowd at his victory celebration at Russo’s on the Bay Tuesday night. Accompanied by his wife, Yadira Moran and beautiful baby daughter Lily, Ulrich arrived on the heels of an announcement from NY1 that Lew Simon was in the lead by 62% over the posted 38% for Ulrich.

But minutes later, when Ulrich took the mic at the podium, the shock of the results posted by NY1 initially was quickly set to rest. “Despite the fact that NY1 has us on the losing side of things but I can assure you that with only two poll sites outstanding I am ahead by roughly 1500 votes.”

Ulrich went on to praise those he considers for the successful re-election bid. “Because of your good work and all of the support throughout the district, we have a very strong lead,” he beamed.

Ulrich also told those assembled that regardless of the number of paper ballots outstanding and paper that we yet to be counted, his victory was not in jeopardy.

“I am just so thrilled to be in this room tonight with all of you. Many of you have been with me since the very beginning and this is not going to be the end, I can assure you of that.”

The councilman was especially effusive with the praise for his family especially wife Yadira whom he said “puts up with so much, it’s just incredible. I think I see much more of all of you than I do of her.” Ulrich also praised his grandmother and grandfather for their unwavering support of whatever choices he makes.

In concluding Ulrich turned serious, “I would not be the person that I am today without the people that are standing behind me standing–with me I should say. I am so blessed to have the love and support and the confidence of these people.”

“But, there is one person who stands out above the rest. The person that was always able to cheer me up and able to give me the good spirit to fight on each and every day,” said an obviously emotional Ulrich, “and that is my beautiful daughter Lily.”

“Go to bed tonight knowing two things–that we made a difference”–and joked Ulrich, “we kicked Lew Simon’s butt.”

Ulrich arrived to vote at his own polling site at 7:30 a.m., with wife Yadira and daughter Lily in tow. Although not old enough to vote or even speak yet, there’s no doubt that Lily Ulrich swayed a few doubts with that beautiful smile.
