Ozone Park’s St. Stan’s Catholic Youth Organization ninth grade boys team defeated St. Joe’s from Astoria 56-52 to win the CYO Christmas Tournament Championship on Dec. 29.
Last week’s victory was the culmination of a series of wins during the two-week Christmas tournament run by CYO, which consisted of 12 of the top ninth grade teams in the Brooklyn-Queens area.
The Ozone Park team’s head coach, Joe Bode, heaped praise on his players, calling them one of his most accomplished groups that he has led. Many of the players have been on the team since they were in third and fourth grade.
“I’m so proud of them,” Bode said.
