Queens Borough President Melinda Katz appointed a Forest Hills parent to her hometown education council.

Ann Kittredge, a parent of public school children who attend PS 101 Q and the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School in Forest Hills, was given a position on the Community Education Council for District 28, which includes schools in Forest Hills, Jamaica, and Kew Gardens.

Her appointment will fill the void left by Deborah Dillingham, who Katz tapped to be her representative on the citywide Panel for Educational Policy.

Katz hailed Kittredge as a proud parent and strong advocate for education for all the city’s children.

“Since her first child entered the city’s public school system 10 years ago, Ann Kittredge has immersed herself in learning about the many different facets of educational policy and has dedicated a great deal of her time and effort to volunteer projects aimed at improving the education of our children,” Katz said.

Kittredge has already been a member of the school leadership teams at both schools her children attend and was the parent representative on the 2011-2012 city Education Department’s middle school advisory committee. She also led several initiatives to promote an improved relationship between city public schools and local parents, Katz said.

“Ms. Kittredge brings a number of skills to the table, including her abilities to listen and build consensus and to follow through on projects,” Katz said. “She also cares a great deal about our children and their education. I am certain she will be a wonderful asset to the Community Education Council of District 28.”

Kittredge’s appointment is set for a term that will end June 30, 2015, Katz said. Her position was established to help shape educational policies and priorities in the central Queens district with a board made up of parent volunteers and advocates.

Aside from being a public school parent, Kittredge also boasts a wide range of theatrical experience in various New York and regional shows and concerts, according to her website at annkittredge.com.

There are 32 community education councils throughout the city, with one representing each district.
