Resources for Residents Recovering from Flooding

As Lindenwood residents begin to recover from the devastating flooding that swept through their neighborhood last week, there are a number of resources and tips available to them to help return their lives to normal.

Those impacted by flooding must submit claims of water damage to the city Comptroller’s office within 90 days of the incident. Claims may be filed electronically at http://comptroller.nyc.gov/forms-n-rfps/filing-claims/, or the comptroller’s office may be reached by calling (212) 669-3916 or by emailing action@comptroller.nyc.gov.

For information about post-disaster home inspections, the city Department of Housing Preservation and Development may be reached at 311 or (212) 639-6975. For information about flood cleanup and mold prevention, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene may be reached by calling 311 or (212) 639-6975.

The Human Resources Administration can field questions about emergency shelter, temporary financial assistance, medical care and counseling. The administration may be reached by calling (877) 472-8411.

Various nonprofit organizations are also available to help. The American Red Cross in Greater New York may be contacted by calling (877) 733-2767. Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City’s number is 212-519-2500, and Catholic Charities may be reached at (888) 744-7900.
