City Councilman Ruben Wills (D-Jamaica) last week announced the extension and enhancement of additional sanitation services along the commercial corridors of Council District 28 through spring 2015.

A component of the Clean Streets, Safe Neighborhoods, Strong Communities initiative launched this past April, Wildcat Services Corp. will now clean these neighborhoods on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Services will also be expanded to include leaf and snow removal, as well as the removal of garbage and other debris from select vacant lots and abandoned homes.

Wills said that while the partnership with the sanitation company has yielded positive results, it’s up to residents as well to take pride in their communities.

“[Wildcat] alone cannot shoulder the load of preserving the cleanliness of our neighborhoods,” noted Wills at a Thursday press conference on Liberty Avenue in Richmond Hill. “That responsibility also lies with us as citizens, and we all must do our share.”

Assemblywoman Michele Titus (D-South Ozone Park) said that she and Wills share a common interest in improving the quality of life in the southeast segment of the borough.

“That means ensuring Clean Streets, Safe Neighborhoods, Strong Communities and access to open space and local parks,” Titus said.

State Sen. James Sanders (D-South Ozone Park) echoed Wills’ call to the community for action.

“The restoration and revitalization of our community depends on our collective efforts to keep our streets clean and promote safe neighborhoods by having a sense of pride and respect for our area,” he added. “Through the Clean Streets, Safe Neighborhoods, Strong Communities initiative we have an opportunity to improve our community and ensure our children grow up in a safe and clean environment.”
