Arverne Man Charged with Assaulting 13-Month-Old Baby

An Arverne man last week was freed on $30,000 bail after being charged with brutally assaulting his ex-girlfriend’s 13-month-old son while babysitting the boy two weeks ago, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown and the city Department of Correction.

Bishme Allah, 30, was arraigned last Wednesday night on charges of first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the charges, Jazmyn Reyes brought her son, Jassier Reyes-Meyers, to Allah’s residence on the evening of Nov. 10.  Around 7:30 p.m., Reyes left her son alone with Allah for approximately 30 minutes in order to run errands.  At the time of her leaving, the baby was crying. When Reyes returned, Allah allegedly told her that her son was asleep and the two of them then smoked weed and ate a sandwich.

Reyes then allegedly got into bed with her son at approximately 9:00 p.m. without turning on the lights.  When Allah got into the bed and Reyes shifted her son, she allegedly observed marks on his face and severe swelling to his head and demanded that Allah take them to the hospital.

Additionally, Jassier Reyes-Meyers was admitted to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, and an examination revealed that he had a severe skull fracture, subdural hemorrhage, retinal hemorrhages and external patterned contusion and bruising on the head and lower abdomen. Medical personnel determined that the injuries were consistent with non-accidental inflicted trauma and that the nature and pattern of the injuries were consistent with forceful impact, such as a crush or impact onto or with an object containing a patterned surface. They then alerted authorities to the matter.

Allah was ordered to return to court on Dec. 1. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
