Manhattan Man Pleads Guilty to Home Invasions

A Manhattan man last week copped to burglary charges in connection with the robbery of three Queens women in two separate home invasions in April, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Salvador Morales, 59, pleaded guilty last Monday to first- and second-degree burglary. Queens Supreme Court Justice Elise Koenderman indicated that she would sentence Morales to 11 years in prison on Jan. 23.

In pleading guilty, Morales admitted that on April 5 he followed his first two victims, ages 72 and 73, from a bank on Kissena Boulevard to their Flushing apartment building. Morales, wearing a yellow construction helmet, a white surgical mask and white surgical tape on several fingers, entered the elevator with the two women. As they got off on their floor and entered their apartment, he pushed them to the floor and fled with the 72-year-old victim’s pocketbook, which contained more than $1,000 that had been withdrawn from the bank. The 73-year-old victim sustained a fractured leg as a result of being pushed by Morales.

In the second incident, Morales, using the ruse that he had been sent by the landlord to look for water leaks, gained access to a 97-year-old Sunnyside woman’s apartment and robbed her of $700 cash and jewelry.
