Woman Set Up Botched Robbery That Ended in Homicide: DA

A South Ozone Park woman last week was charged with murder in the shooting death of her boyfriend during a botched robbery attempt she allegedly helped plan with the gunman, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Natasha Mohabeer, 30, last Friday night was remanded into custody after she was arraigned on charges of murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree robbery.

According to the charges, Mohabeer allegedly orchestrated the robbery of her boyfriend, Michael Jonathan, with an unidentified man who is still on the loose. Jonathan scuffled with the gunman and was shot in the torso. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

“The defendant is accused of arranging to have her boyfriend robbed, but the victim scuffled with the gunman and was shot and killed,” Brown said. “This is yet another example of the senseless gun violence in our community that must end. The defendant now faces being locked behind bars for the rest of her life.”

If convicted, Mohabeer faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
