With the May 13 date of the final Jamaica Bay Greenway Project workshop fast approaching, an analyst for the plan on Tuesday urged area residents to attend the event and provide feedback.
“This is probably the most important of the three meetings,” said Sanjay Seth, a Regional Plan Association research analyst, “because this is about the Draft [Implementation] Plan.”

Seth delivered his remarks at the April meeting of the Howard Beach-Lindenwood Civic at St. Helen Catholic Academy.

The project focuses on expanding the Greenway through neighboring communities via more than 28 miles of pedestrian and bicycle paths along Jamaica Bay and the Rockaway waterfront. According to the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program—one of about six agencies and organizations involved in the plan—the goal is “a safe, cohesive, accessible, and user-friendly route that attracts and transports visitors and nearby residents to city and national park land, the waterfront, and the unique resources at Jamaica Bay, and connects to the broader bicycle and pedestrian networks.”

Civic President Joann Ariola echoed Seth’s call to action on Tuesday.

“I cannot stress enough how important this meeting is,” she said.

The final workshop for the Howard Beach/Ozone Park region will be held at the Old Mill Yacht Club, 163-15 Cross Bay Blvd., at 7 p.m.
