More than 200 Veterans Work for TSA at Borough Airports

Just a couple of days prior to the July 4th holiday weekend, the Transportation Security Administration noted that it employs 12,500 military veterans nationwide.

Approximately 500 former service members work for TSA at airports in New York and New Jersey; 127 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, 86 at LaGuardia Airport, and six veterans work for the agency at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Newark Liberty International boasts 131 TSA employees who have served their country, the most of any airport between the two states.

TSA Spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said it’s fairly easy to see why so many veterans have opted to don the distinct royal blue uniform.

“TSA is an attractive employer to military veterans for a number of reasons,” she said in a statement to The Forum. “Many apply to work at TSA after their military service is complete because they find it to be a natural transition as they continue to protect our homeland. Others find that the specialized training and experience that they received in the armed forces can be utilized at TSA, such as explosives training.”
