Hip-hop culture isn’t the only thing that was born in the Bronx.

After the borough’s Community Board 7 approved and convened the first-ever CB Veterans Committee in the city earlier this year, City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) introduced legislation that would require the creation of such committees in all community boards.

Int. 884-2015, which was introduced on Aug. 13, would require each CB across the city to establish a committee dedicated to the needs of veterans and their families within the community district. The committee, Ulrich said, will be led by a chairperson and comprised of community board members who will collaborate to improve advocacy and awareness of critical issues facing veterans and to improve their quality of life.

“Convening veterans committees within community boards is another small step toward spreading greater awareness and advocacy for our veterans who have so bravely served our country,” Ulrich said.

Dolores Orr, chairwoman of Queens Community Board 14, praised Ulrich for sponsoring the bill.

“We need to do everything we can to improve the health and quality of life of these men and women who served so bravely,” she said. “A veterans committee on each and every community board in the city will bring the attention of the needs of veterans to us all.”
