City Councilman Eric Ulrich last week delivered remarks at the opening of the Queens College Veterans Support Services office.
Ulrich, chairman of the Veterans Service Committee, helped celebrate the launch of the new facility that will help the college’s Veterans Support Services better assist vets, current military personnel and their dependents by providing academic resources and referrals to community and government agencies that can help with mental health, housing and healthcare.
“By opening this office, Queens College is raising the bar for colleges and universities who educate our large and diverse veterans community. I hope that in time, Queens College becomes an academic destination for our service members and their families,” Ulrich said. “I commend Queens College President Félix Matos Rodriguez for his leadership in establishing the Veterans Support Services Center and United States Marine Corps Veteran Dennis Torres for his service to our nation and advocating for our veterans.”
U.S. Marine Corps veteran Dennis Torres, the Veterans Outreach specialist for the Queens College VSS, added, “Queens College has shown its unrelenting determination and commitment to all military-related students. Our new space gives veterans, military personnel and their dependents access to much needed services. It symbolizes much more than just an individual commitment; it symbolizes a group effort.”
