HBL Civic Introduces New CO of 106

Civic president Joann Ariola looks on admiringly as the newly instated CO of the 106th Precinct, Captain Brian Bohannon, shares the story of his impressive rise through the ranks of the NYPD.

The Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic welcomed a host of guests to its monthly meeting on Tuesday night including a panel of candidates for the 23rd Assembly District seat recently vacated by Phil Goldfedder and the state senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Leading off the evening’s presentation  was Mike Wilson of Gallup NYC, a not for profit that has taken over the reigns of the former Cedar Lane Stables on Linden Blvd at the South Conduit.

GallopNYC uses therapeutic horsemanship to help riders with disabilities walk, talk and learn,inspiring them to live their lives as fully and independently as possible.

Wilson explained that his team has been cleaning up the stable area for the last 45 days and is expecting horses to arrive within the next 20 days.

Programs will service those with autism as well as physical disabilities. There will be an open house at the site on November 1 at 4:30 pm. All are welcome to come view the stables and learn more about the program. Civic President Joann Ariola then turned over the mic to Capt. Brian Bohannon, who has assumed the role of commanding officer of the 106th Pct., following the departure of Capt. James Fey.

Bohannon, 34, shared the details of a  very distinguished career which began 12 years ago in the 103rd Pct. in Jamaica, doing his impact time on foot. The following year he started his patrol work in the 107th Pct. was promoted to sergeant in 2009 after only five years on the job. Over the next three years, he was moved to a detail in Brooklyn Transit during which he studied for the lieutenants test, passing and finishing 11th on the exam and earning his next promotion after only eight years on the job.

As lieutenant he was moved to the 103rd. Pct. where he covered the late tour and after six months there he became the Special Operations Lt. 103rd pct. Studied for captains exam and was promoted to the prestigious
