Vireo Health of New York, one of five companies licensed by the State to cultivate, manufacture, and dispense medical marijuana, announced on Friday that it has launched New York City and Long Island’s first-ever medical marijuana home-delivery program.
Beginning last Friday morning, medical marijuana home deliveries will be made to patients in Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau and parts of Suffolk County. The delivery zone will then expand into Westchester, The Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island. Over time, Vireo indicated that it hopes to cover other areas throughout the state, particularly in the Capital Region and Southern Tier.
“We’re excited to make history today with New York City and Long Island’s first-ever state-approved medical marijuana deliveries,” said Ari Hoffnung, CEO of Vireo Health of New York. “New York’s medical marijuana program now includes a wide array of patients and our home delivery program is designed to not only serve those patients who are home-bound or have trouble visiting a dispensary but also those who will appreciate its convenience.”
According to Vireo, the medical marijuana “from our greenhouse to your front door” home-delivery program was designed by a team of security experts, pharmacists, and physicians to serve homebound patients with life-threatening and debilitating diseases, like cancer, ALS and chronic pain.
Additionally, as Vireo noted, numerous measures have been taken to ensure the safety of patients and the delivery staff. In accordance with State regulations that prohibit outsourcing in New York’s “seed-to-sale” medical marijuana industry, all deliveries will be handled exclusively by Vireo employees. The deliveries will be made by at least two staff members, and company-owned delivery vehicles are outfitted with cutting-edge safety features, including GPS tracking devices.
