Detectives with the 102nd Precinct recently reached out to the public for help in identifying the suspects wanted in connection with the installation of a “skimming” device on an automated teller machine at an Ozone Park New York Community Bank branch.
According to police reports, on Wednesday, April 12, around 8 a.m., an ATM technician recovered a skimming device from a machine inside the vestibule of the NY Community Bank on 101st Avenue and 99th Street. Cops said the suspects were captured on photo surveillance installing the device the previous day.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, skimming is an illegal activity that involves the installation of a device, usually undetectable to ATM users, that secretly records bank account data when the user inserts an ATM card into the machine. Criminals can then encode the stolen data onto a bank card and use it to loot the customer’s account.
The Ozone Park suspects are described as white men, approximately 21 to 30 years old.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, (888) 57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit info by logging onto NYPDCrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All correspondences are strictly confidential.
