Borough communities over the past week paid respect to their veterans in ceremonies across Queens and at the Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan.
City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park), chairman of the Council Veterans Committee, could be seen marching up Fifth Avenue, proudly waving the Stars & Stripes.
State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) last Thursday participated in Queens Borough President Melinda Katz’s Veterans Day Observance Ceremony at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center in Borough Hall. That event included special recognition for three borough veterans: U.S. Army Corp. Pedro Nieves; U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Spencer Polinger; and U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class Rosetta Cargin. The ceremony also featured a tribute to the late Paul Narson, former commander of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 32.
Sen. Addabbo also sponsored this year’s Take a Vet to School Day, which saw several local veterans honored at PS 47 in Broad Channel.
