Thousands of families on Sunday afternoon bundled up and braved a blast of wintry weather in the middle of fall to take in the sounds, smells, and sight of Santa and Mrs. Claus at the 22nd annual “Little North Pole” celebration in Neponsit.
Hosted by Rockaway attorney Joe Mure, the event that benefits JDRF Diabetes Foundation was organized about three weeks earlier than in years past, because this year, the “House that Joe Lit” will be featured on network television in a national holiday show.
Radio personalities Joe Causi and Goumba Johnny emceed the fundraiser that featured a star-studded lineup of entertainment, food and drinks for everyone and the distribution of nearly 3,000 toys to ecstatic children by Santa, Mrs. Claus and a full compliment of elves and helpers. Mure was also generously supported in his efforts by the Ben Bay Kiwanis clubs and Kiwanis clubs throughout Brooklyn and Queens, including Howard Beach.
As of Wednesday afternoon, this year’s “Little North Pole” raised nearly $25,000 dollars for JDRF and Type 1 diabetes research and support. For more information and to donate, visit littlenorthpole.org
