Far Rockaway Man Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for Shooting

Isaiah Nicholson, 22, of Cornaga Avenue in the Far Rockaway section of Queens man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for trying to kill a neighborhood man as he walked down the street in November of 2016.
The victim was shot in the stomach and had to have part of his intestine removed, but survived the shooting.
District Attorney Brown said, “…Illegal guns in our neighborhoods pose a deadly threat to everyone. The victim in the case, survived his injuries, but will forever be affected by the shooting. The defendant, a young man who could have had a bright future, is going to prison for a very long time. The sentence imposed by the Court will punish the defendant for his criminal activity as well as keep society safe.”
On October 31, 2017 Nicholson abruptly ended his on-going trial by pleading guilty to second-degree attempted murder.
Justice Kenneth C. Holder yesterday Nicholson to 18 years in prison to be followed by five years’ post release supervision.
According to the charges, on the afternoon of November 14, 2016, the defendant proceeded on foot toward the then-28-year-old victim as he walked down the street. The victim heard a gunshot, looked down at his abdomen and saw blood oozing from his stomach.
Video surveillance of the scene showed images of Nicholson approaching the victim. There is a sudden flash of light and the victim falls to the ground. The victim was taken to an area hospital, where part of his small intestine was removed. He has recovered from his injuries despite that the bullet remains lodged in his abdomen.
