An all-hands blaze late Thursday night in a small, rundown Woodhaven apartment building claimed the life of one of its tenants, according to City Fire officials.
An unconscious Ines Parra, 48, was found by firefighters in a second-floor apartment on 102nd Street between Jamaica and 87th avenues. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
No other injuries were reported. Roughly 65 Bravest responded to the inferno that erupted around 11 p.m. and was brought under control approximately 30 minutes later.
An FDNY source told the New York Daily News that the accidental fire likely was sparked by a hot plate.
Last month, fire marshals pointed to a hot plate as the culprit in a Bronx apartment building blaze that killed a teenage girl and her father.
