A Far Rockaway is charged with reckless endangerment after his involvement in a hit-and-run collision that injured 11-year-old boy.
Agostinho Sinclair, 41, of Bay 28th Street has been charged with reckless endangerment and other crimesfor allegedlystriking the boy who was on a bicycle and then driving away last Monday.
“The defendant is accused of driving his vehicle without a license and while doing so, colliding with a young boy riding his bike. To add insult to injury, the defendant did not bother to stop to offer the injured child aid and instead fled the scene. The defendant’s alleged actions showed a wanton and reckless disregard for human life,” said DA Richard brown.
Sinclairwas arraigned on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting/serious physical injury, endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving by unlicensed operator.
If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison. Authorities say that on August 13, at approximately 8:10 p.m., a dark four-door sedan was observed on video surveillance striking the boy on a bike. The driver then fled. There was no front plate on the sedan and the rear plate was from out-of-state. The following day, the vehicle was observed by a safety patrol peace officer across the street from the defendant’s residence and the vehicle appeared to have dents and scratches to the front passenger headlight and hood area and displayed a shattered windshield on the passenger side. When the defendant was apprehended he allegedly admitted that “I have a Honda Accord. I was in the accident last night. I don’t remember what time, probably late afternoon.”
The 11-year-old victim was admitted to a local Queens hospital and continues to be treated for his injuries, which include contusions, swelling and bleeding in his intestines and numerous other injuries.
The defendant’s driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle was suspended on two or more occasions – as recently as December 27, 2017, and that his driving privilege is currently suspended.
