The City Police Department’s Counterterrorism Bureau recently held its K-9 graduation. Among the collared scholars was “Simo,” a German shepherd named in honor of Det. Brian Simonsen, a 19-year veteran of the NYPD who was fatally shot once in the torso in February responding to calls of an armed robbery at a T-Mobile store on Atlantic Avenue in Richmond Hill. Simonsen, 42, worked out of the 102nd Precinct for his entire career.
“Simo” is handled by PO Danny Cea.
