The U.S. Postal Service has restored a mail collection box (similar to the one pictured) that the agency removed from the corner of 98th Street and the northbound service road of Woodhaven Boulevard in Woodhaven, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing) announced Monday.
After residents of the area complained that the collection box was suddenly removed from the corner last month, Meng contacted the USPS and learned it had been taken away for repairs. Those who live nearby objected to the removal since it forced them to walk several blocks to the nearest collection box. Many seniors residing in the area noted that they were unable to walk the additional distance.
Meng said she urged Postal officials to quickly replace the collection box; and within days it was reinstalled at the site.
