Historic Neir’s Tavern in Woodhaven was burglarized early Friday morning, with hooded crooks swiping cash, an expensive register, and several bottles of liquor, according to police and published reports.

The movements of the two perps were captured by the 190-year-old watering hole’s security cameras. According to Neir’s staff, the cash register alone will cost “thousands” to replace. The register contained roughly $300 in cash at the time of the burglary.

However, all is not lost. As with nearly everything involving the beloved 78th Street bar, more than a glint of a silver lining seems on the horizon. The community has come together to support their treasured trove of booze, music, and pub fare. Glenn Vile recently organized a Go Fund Me page that, as of Wednesday afternoon, has garnered more than $4,300 in donations.

“Neir’s, after surviving most of the lockdown and working its way back to solvency was the victim of a brazen robbery,” Vile wrote at gofundme.com/f/robbery-recovery-for-neir039s-tavern. “This fundraiser is to help Neir’s get back to serving drinks, helping people make friends, and ensuring good times for the community.”

And Neir’s owner Loy Gordon said he appreciates the love and aid.

“Today has been a difficult day for Neir’s Tavern but the outpouring of support has been so uplifting. We can’t begin to express our appreciation for the Neir’s community,” said Gordon, a lieutenant in the City Fire Department. “We want you to know that we are open and we look forward to serving you. Thank you to everyone for being so supportive.”
