With the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority awarding two new offshore wind projects, area elected officials are partnering to bring a virtual educational seminar to the community.
“Offshore Wind Energy: The Promise of Good Jobs & Clean Energy” will be a virtual seminar in which experts from the offshore wind energy industry, government officials, and members of the labor movement and higher education talk about New York’s plans to build, install, and operate hundreds of wind turbines in the waters off New York City and Long Island.
The free seminar will take place online on Wednesday, April 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to all students, educators, and community members who are interested in learning more about New York’s growing offshore wind energy industry, the career opportunities that will come with it, and its environmental benefits for the community.

The event has been coordinated by State Sens. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) and James Sanders Jr. (D-South Ozone Park), and Assemblymembers Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Howard Beach) and Khaleel Anderson (D-Far Rockaway); and co-hosted by Workforce Development Institute of New York. With support from: Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, City College, City Tech, College of Staten Island, CUNY, IBEW Local 3, Jamaica NAACP, Kingsborough Community College, LaGuardia Community College, NYCEDC, NYSERDA, Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, SBIDC, Sheltering Arms, SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Maritime.
