Governor Kathy Hochul and Rep. Lee Zeldin on Tuesday cruised to victory in the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary and the GOP Gubernatorial Primary, respectively.
Hochul (66 percent) drubbed Public Advocate Jumaane Williams (19 percent) and Rep. Tom Suozzi (13 percent). Zeldin (41 percent) comfortably defeated Andrew Giuliani (23 percent), Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino (19 percent), and businessman Harry Wilson (16 percent).
“For the first time in history, a woman is the Democratic nominee for governor of New York. I’m here because of my family, hardworking New Yorkers, tireless organizers, and the generations of women before me who shattered glass ceilings. Let’s win this in November,” Hochul said.
“On Nov. 8, Kathy Hochul will be FIRED as governor of New York. She’s in over her head and a walking identity crisis, pandering to the far-left tax and spend, pro-criminal elements of her party. Hochul is out of step with NYers on the issues they say are most important to them,” Zeldin said.
As for Assembly Democratic primaries, borough incumbents emerged victorious, including in District 24, where Assemblyman David Weprin (D-South Richmond Hill) didn’t break a sweat Tuesday night, taking 63 percent of the votes. Both of his opponents earned 16 and 15 percent. And in District 28, Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi (D-Forest Hills) garnered 65 percent of the votes, while his lone opponent, Ethan Felder, took 29 percent.
