Migrants Hop Back aboard Buses at Floyd Bennett Field, Citing Several Reasons for Refusing to Stay

Two buses of migrants arrived at Floyd Bennett Field on Sunday and immediately returned to the buses, refusing to stay, for various reasons such as location, conditions and the proximity of the schools where their children are registered.

These are some of the same reasons City Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Ozone Park) has been noting for several weeks that the federal greenspace is an ill-conceived location for a migrant camp.

This wasn’t the only news of the week regarding Floyd Bennett Field.

Ariola and Assemblywoman Jaime Williams (D-Brooklyn) noted in a joint statement released on Friday, “Today, before our hearing on consolidation, the case regarding the shelter at St. John Villa on Staten Island was dismissed by the court. Therefore, there was no case to consolidate our case with. In order to avoid continued delaying tactics by the city and the state, we have agreed to have the case put before Justice Peter Sweeney in Brooklyn Supreme Court.

“We are going to ask the court to accelerate its scheduled hearing date so that the matter can be heard expeditiously.

“Judge Ozzi in Staten Island already decided the major issues of law that are the centerpiece of our case. Therefore, the questions should be when, not if, the mayor and the governor will lose this case.”
