Ariola Hosting Free Property Tax Consultations

New York homeowners, as well as co-op and condo owners, should be receiving their Notice of Property Value (NOPV) in the mail in the coming days. What many might not know, however, is that there are a vast array of exemptions that many property owners might be entitled to. To help constituents get all of the exemptions they are entitled to, Councilwoman Joann Ariola’s (R-Ozone Park) office is hosting free property tax exemption consultations for District 32 residents.

“This is a great resource for our constituents, because so many people are eligible for a tax exemption and simply don’t know it,” Ariola said on Tuesday. “Many others may have applied for exemptions previously, and might not realize that they need to re-apply again in order to maintain their exemptions. Through these consultations, we can make sure that property owners are getting everything they are entitled to. And, especially in today’s economy, we could all use a little extra money in our pockets at the end of the year, so these exemptions can really help people.”

The City Department of Finance administers several abatement and exemption programs for qualifying homeowners, including the Senior Citizen, Veterans, Disabled, Clergy or STAR Exemption Programs. New applications for these benefits must be received by March 15, 2024 in order for the benefits to take effect for FY25. Senior citizen and disabled homeowners who currently receive the Senior Citizen Homeowners’ Exemption or Disabled Homeowners’ Exemption are not required to renew their exemption this year due to the enactment of a recent state law.

In addition to uncovering potential exemptions, filings made through these consultations will be sent directly to the Department of Finance via email, so that the exemption applications get into the right hands and are processed quickly.
