Jamaica Man Charged in Month-long Break-in Spree

A 48-year-old Jamaica man has been arrested and charged with breaking into five homes in Ozone park and South Ozone park last month and stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and other items, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Tuesday.
Harry Garcia was arraigned Saturday on charges of burglary, grand larceny, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest, according to the DA.
“I commend the police and prosecutors in this case for their hard work in tracking down the defendant and working to end his alleged one-man crime wave,” Brown said in a prepared statement. “People’s homes are their sanctuaries, and this defendant is alleged to have crossed a very serious line in entering those homes and stealing personal and valuable items.”
According to the criminal complaint, police witnessed Garcia allegedly entering a rear yard on 117th Street in South Ozone Park. After a short period of time, the defendant was allegedly observed leaving the rear yard with a bag he had not been carrying when he entered the dwelling, the DA said. When officers approached Garcia, he allegedly dropped the bag and fled on foot. He was arrested about a block away, where it is alleged that he resisted arrest by flailing his arms and legs.
In Garcia’s bag, officers allegedly found a Sony PlayStations, controllers, and other accessories.
