Colleagues and friends of Freddy Grey this week continued to help raise money via a fundraising website for the late volunteer firefighter’s family.

Grey, who was a member of the Broad Channel and West Hamilton Beach volunteer fire departments, died on Nov. 19. He was 41.

According to the BCVFD, Grey earned numerous citations and the Medal of Exceptional Bravery during his time with the agency. A past president of the Volunteer Firemen’s Association of the City of New York, Grey was one of the four Broad Channel VFD members injured aboard Ambulance 303 at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, and was among the first responders to the crash of Flight 587 in Belle Harbor two months later.

“His deep, raspy voice, great sense of humor and most of all his friendship and dedication to the brotherhood will be sorely missed amongst us all throughout the fire service,” said the BCVFD.

“My heart is broken! Freddie was a true friend who made everyone around him feel like family! #WeLostAHero #RIP” former Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder recently wrote on his Twitter page.
