It seems that the Howard Beach post office has managed to avoid the guillotine—for the next decade, at least.
Though it was rumored for several months this year to be on the chopping block, the United States Postal Service recently signed a 10-year lease to keep the branch located at 160-50 Cross Bay Blvd. up and running.
This is music to the ears of residents Howard Beach, Lindenwood and Broad Channel, who would have had to travel to Liberty Avenue for the nearest full-service post office had the Cross Bay outlet been shuttered.
“My office was pleased to learn that the Howard Beach post office will remain open and at its current site for the next 10 years,” said State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach). “I know this post office is an integral part of the community and plays an important role in the quality of life for my constituents. The service that the Howard Beach post office provides is important to so many aspects in the lives of our people. My thanks to Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and his staff, along with the advocacy of local community leaders and residents, the U.S. Postal Service and property owner for working towards keeping the Howard Beach post office open.”
