Forest Park is set to host the second annual Richmond Hill Farmer’s Market, City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) announced Tuesday.
Situated in close proximity to the park’s My Buddy Monument, which is located near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Park Lane South, the market kicks-off on Saturday, July 13, and will return every Saturday thereafter from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Nov. 23.
For the second-consecutive year, Ulrich has allocated $20,000 in funds for the market, which promises to offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from locally-sourced farms, which change seasonally. During the summer months, visitors can find blackberries, blueberries, peaches, carrots, garlic, cilantro, arugula, radish, mint, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs, and more. During the fall season, produce such as celery, parsnips, peas, and eggplant will be available for purchase. Many fruits and vegetables will be offered during both seasons, the councilman noted.
“Last year, we welcomed the first-ever farmer’s market to Richmond Hill and it was a major success. The market filled a crucial void in Richmond Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods, where residents previously had to travel great distances to buy fresh produce,” Ulrich added. “I am thrilled to partner with GrowNYC on this project for a second year, giving residents direct access to fresh fruit and vegetables from locally-sourced farms—right in their backyard.”
Ulrich also reported Tuesday that, much like last year, the 2019 Farmer’s Market will employ students from Ozone Park’s John Adams High School’s Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, to give “our youth the opportunity to learn valuable life skills and to earn some money during the summer and fall season.”
