Phony Pro Sports Rings Seized at JFK

Federal officers earlier this month seized counterfeited professional sports championship rings at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Customs and Border Protection agents confiscated two separate shipments of the fake gaudy jewelry. The seizure of 144 rings—84 in one shipment; 60 in the other—would have had a combined M.S.R.P. of $216,000 USD ($126,000 and $90,000) if they were actually legitimate.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, CBP officials said.

“CBP officers are protecting the American public from various dangers on a daily basis,” said Troy Miller, director of CBP’s New York Field Operations. “The interception of these counterfeit professional sports championship rings is a direct reflection of the vigilance and commitment to mission success by our CBP officers daily.”
