Electronic Recyclable Collection at Forest Park

Locals looking to dispose of their electronic waste that can’t go into the normal trash can do so at Forest Park this Sunday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
State Senator Joe Addabbo and Assemblyman Mike Miller are hosting the free event in the parking lot around Seuffert Bandshell.

They’re encouraging locals to participate in the environmentally responsible, free event.

Disposing of electronic and other hazardous waste this way will prevent it from entering into a landfill and polluting.

The two politicians want residents to clean out closets, bookcases, file cabinets, attics and basements.

The event will accept a wide range of electronic and hazardous waste including: computers, monitors, cell phones, servers, fax machines, typewriters, TVs, PDAs, scanners, copiers, printers, batteries, laptops, cameras, wires, power strips, chargers, cable boxes, fans, air conditioners, telephones, and VCR tapes.

In addition to the electronic waste, the event will also accept clothing and textiles including coats, bedding, linens, paired shoes, scarves, belts, hats, handbags.

There will be a place to drop off papers and cardboard as well, with shredding for sensitive documents.

Carpet, foam padding and household items such as dishes, glasses, silverware, lamps, pots and drapes will also be accepted.

There will be a place to donate unwanted eyeglasses too.

Instead of tossing the electronic waste in a landfill, all hazardous components—batteries on circuit boards and portable equipment, mercury switches, toxic capacitors, fluorescent lamps, leaded glass from monitors—will be extracted prior to destruction.

Those are then disposed of in an environmentally sound manner, exceeding federal and state regulations.

The non-hazardous materials are recycled.

All material assigned to destruction is totally disassembled, shredded, incinerated or a combination of these.

The event will take place rain or shine.
