Crowley Sponsors Recycling Event

Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, with COMET and the Maspeth Federal Savings Bank, hosted Honor Earth Day, a recycling fair that took place on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Maspeth Federal Saving Bank. Residents from all over the community came by to recycle their old electronics with e-Green Managment; dispose of junk mail and sensitive documents in a safe and environmental way; and donate 30 bags of old clothing and textiles to Wearable Clothing Collections. In addition, the NYPD etched a free VIN (Vehicle Identification Numbers) into approximately 30 cars to help protect the vehicles against auto-theft.

“As Americans, we represent five percent of the world’s population and consume more than twenty percent of the world’s energy and produce thirty percent of the world’s pollution,” Crowley said. “I commend the Queens’ residents who took advantage of this past weekend’s Recycling Fair and I hope they will spread the news to their friends for next time.”
