Public Hearings Set for Potential School Closings

Several schools in Queens are in danger of closing – including Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Richmond Hill High School and John Adams High School in Ozone Park.

The Department of Education (DOE) is inviting residents to attend public hearings for changes in school utilization during the public review period.

According to the DOE, all the schools that have proposed changes will hold a public meeting to garner public comment on the proposals, before the Panel for Education Policy votes on them on Apr. 26 at Prospects Heights Campus in Brooklyn

The meeting at Grover Cleveland will be on Monday, Apr. 2. Richmond Hill HS will have its meeting on Thursday, Apr. 5 and John Adams on Thursday, Apr. 19. All three meetings will start at 6:00 p.m.

If you cannot attend a meeting, you can call the DOE’s City District Representative, Elaine Gorman, Division of Portfolio Planning, at 212-374-7621 or e-mail D24Proposals@schools.nyc.gov for Grover Cleveland or D27Proposals@schools.nyc.gov for Richmond Hill and John Adams.
