String of Burglaries Hits Ozone Park

The quiet residential area in the vicinity of Lefferts Blvd. and 133rd Avenue has been hit recently by a rash of brazen burglars entering the homes of residents and making off with their car keys and vehicles. Forum Newsgroup photo by Luis Gronda.

The 106th Precinct is looking for a suspect or suspects wanted for a string of burglaries in the Wakefield section of South Ozone Park near Lefferts Blvd. and 133rd Avenue. Brenda Bratcher, community affairs officer at the 106th Precinct, said the crime wave began on Monday and continued throughout the week.

“The [suspects] have been coming in through the first floor window,” she said. “People are not locking their windows.”

Bratcher said that the burglar(s) entered the houses some time during the night into the morning while the residents were at home.

“They’re stealing car keys and taking the vehicles,” she said. Bratcher also stated that the robbers have taken television sets.

As of now, the 106th Precinct has not determined a pattern in these burglaries other than they occurred in the same area.
