A 26-year-old domestic violence victim is urging her husband to turn himself in after she said he allegedly attacked her so badly in Woodhaven that she had to get more than 2,000 stitches on her body – including 700 on her face.
Jennifer Altman said at a televised press conference in Brooklyn last Wednesday that Dartanyan Kingsberry, 23, allegedly slashed her with a boxcutter after she told him she wanted a divorce. After knowing Kingsberry for two years, Altman said he became violent when they married two months ago.
“His words were, ‘if I can’t have you, nobody can have you,’” Altman said at the press conference held in Brooklyn’s East New York.
Altman, who had lived with Kingsberry in Woodhaven, said he told her, “‘You think you’re pretty – you’re not going to be pretty anymore.’”
He then allegedly slashed her seven times all over her body – leaving a two-foot gash that runs from her thigh to the middle of her buttocks, according to Altman. Kingsberry, who police said is still at large and wanted on charges of attempted murder, then left his wife on the side of the road “to die,” Altman said.
The 26-year-old woman was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for treatment.
“If you’re a woman, if you’re with him and you’re hiding him out, please turn him in before this happens to you,” Altman said. “I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
Police said Kingsberry is a 6-foot-tall black male who weighs about 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair and was last seen wearing black work boots, a black t-shirt and gray jeans, according to the NYPD.
Anyone with information about Kingsberry is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-8477.
