With Song and Cheer, Celebrating Christmas in Glendale

Council Member Elizabeth Crowley (D-Middle Village) hosted the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Fred Haller Jr. Triangle across from Forest Park on Myrtle Avenue and Union Turnpike on Saturday.

Also sponsored by the Ridgewood, Glendale, and Middle Village Lions Clubs, the festivities drew people from throughout Queens who ushered in the holidays with song, food and cheer.

Students from P.S./I.S. 113 Anthony J. Pranzo adorned the tree with ornaments made from recycled materials, including tin cans and plastic bottles. The Sacred Heart Children’s Choir and the Queens Metropolitan High School Chorus performed a selection of Christmas carols.

First prize in a holiday-themed doggy dress up contest went to local pup Snuggles. His owner Ruth received a $25 gift certificate to K-9 Caterers on Cooper Avenue.

Santa Claus was also on hand to give out presents.
