Springfield Gdns. Man Convicted of Shooting, Killing Parents

A 26-year-old Springfield Gardens man was convicted last week of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his mother and father as they slept in their bed in September 2011, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Shane Jaggarnauth and an unidentified individual entered the bedroom of his parents, Sugrim and Rosie Jaggarnauth, at their Grayson Street residence at approximately 4 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2011, Brown said. Sugrim Jaggarnauth was fatally shot once in the forehead at close range as he slept. Rosie Jaggarnauth was then also shot once. However, the shot did not prove fatal and she was able to call 911 for help. While on the phone with a 911 operator, she was shot three more times, of which at least one shot proved fatal.

Shortly thereafter, Shane Jaggarnauth called 911 to report that he had been shot in the left shoulder by an intruder who had also murdered his parents, Brown said.

“The defendant has been found guilty of parricide – the act of killing his own parents, which in this case occurred without warning or provocation,” Brown said. “Such a brutal and morally reprehensible crime calls for a lengthy prison sentence to ensure that justice is served and society is protected.”
