Two Men Convicted of Killing Girl at St. Albans Party

Two men last week were found guilty of manslaughter in the 2011 shooting death of a woman at a birthday party in St. Albans, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

After deliberating for nearly two days, a jury late last Thursday convicted both Oneil Mairs, 27, of Jamaica, and Nicholas Allen, 25, of Queens Village, of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment for killing 26-year-old Avalisa Morris on Feb. 6, 2011.

According to testimony, friends Mairs and Allen were physically removed from a house party on 119th Road, only to bang and push against the door they had just been forced to exit. Morris placed her back against the door on the other side; moments later, gunfire erupted and two bullets went through the door, striking Morris in the head, killing her.

“In this case, what was supposed to be a festive occasion turned deadly instead,” Brown said.

Mairs and Allen are due to be sentenced on Dec. 16. They face up to 15 years in prison.
