An Ozone Park man on Monday morning was shot and killed in his home, according to police and published reports.
Frankie Nieves, 51, was found unconscious and unresponsive in his residence on Peconic Street near Boss Street around 8 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency medical personnel rushed Nieves to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputy Inspector Jeff Schiff, commanding officer of the 106th Precinct, provided more information on the incident.
“It’s a new year and, unfortunately, we have taken our 1st shooting homicide for the year,” Schiff posted to the precinct’s Community Council Facebook page. “It occurred this morning at 7:56 AM at 133-32 Peconic Street. 2 dark skinned male Hispanics have been reported to have committed this crime. It seems to be drug related at this time. The investigation is continuing.”
Michelle Oreamuno, commenting on Schiff’s Community Notice regarding the homicide, said she’s praying that “this case is solved and does not become a ‘cold case.’ We have faith that your detectives will do all they can to find who is responsible for the crime, he was an amazing father and loved by many. A disgrace to commit such a crime especially in front of a child may justice be served!!”
