As we do every year on Veterans Day, residents of The World’s Borough joined the rest of their Gotham family on Friday in honoring military service members who have sacrificed their lives in conflicts all over the world over the past several centuries.
“On Veterans Day, we reflect on the debt that we owe to all the heroic men and women who have sacrificed for our freedoms. We stand especially proud of the veterans who continue to answer the call of public service as prosecutors and support staff in this Office,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “We owe the veterans of this great nation our appreciation, respect and gratitude. It was a special privilege to honor the individuals who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms during our annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Queens Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Thank you heroes!”
Locally, Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Ozone Park) and State Sen. Joe Addabb, Jr. (D-Howard Beach), Jr. each honored South Ozone Park resident and World War II veteran Joe Cerese with citations from the City Council and the State Senate.
“He is 97 years old and still goes out every day to raise the flag that hangs outside of his home,” Ariola said. “May God continue to bless him and all of our veterans.”
