Man Charged with Making JFK Airport Terror Threats

A Manhattan man last weekend was charged with calling in nearly a dozen bomb threats to 911 between June 9 and June 24, and threatening to kill both law enforcement and travelers at John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown and Port Authority Police Department Chief Security Officer Thomas Belfiore.

Philip Ngom, 64, was arraigned last Saturday on 11 counts each of first-degree falsely reporting an incident and making a terroristic threat. Ngom is being held on $750,000 bail and will return to court on July 10.

According to the criminal complaint, Ngom allegedly called 911 around 7:15 a.m. on June 18 and stated that he had three chemical bombs in a BMW and would drive the vehicle to Kennedy Airport, adding “I am going to kill a lot of people at the airport today. It’s a pleasure to kill.” At 8 a.m. that same day, Ngom allegedly called again, stating that “Muslims are on their way to place a bomb at JFK today.”

On June 21, Brown said, Ngom allegedly called 911 and stated that it was his mission to kill police officers. And on June 24, Ngom allegedly told a 911 operator that “I have a naked police officer in the basement…I am going to kill a lot of officers tonight. I have three bombs I want to place at JFK Airport.”

Belfiore said that Ngom’s calls “not only caused undue alarm and disruption to thousands of air travelers, but resulted in extensive police resources being wasted to investigate phony threats.”

If convicted, Ngom faces up to seven years in prison.
