Families from far and wide last Sunday flocked to 104th Street for some end-of-the-summer fun, food, ingenious floats and more at the annual Hamilton Beach Baby Parade.

Hosted by the New Hamilton Beach Civic Association, the unique celebration has become a showcase of inspiration, hard work, and creativity as float-building skills are tested.

Indeed the three competition categories are “Most Humorous,” “Most Original,” and “Ragamuffin,” which recognizes the efforts of parade goers who opt for an original costume instead of a float.

Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Howard Beach), whose storied floats have always achieved high marks, did not disappoint this year: his “Just When You Thought Planes Couldn’t Fly Any Lower” aircraft float—undoubtedly inspired by the Federal Airport Noise Compatibility Planning Part 150 Study to better evaluate noise impacts to the communities surrounding JFK—took home the “Most Original” prize.
