Earlier this month, more than 150 volunteers, led by the American Littoral Society and New York Cares, manually removed an estimated 60,000 pounds of asphalt, rocks and other debris from a horseshoe crab habitat at Broad Channel American Park.

According to the ALS, the crabs will soon be coming to the shore to spawn during high tide from mid-May through mid-June. Thanks to the extremely motivated volunteers, the crabs will have a larger area in which to breed this year.
