Seems there never is a dull moment at the World’s Borough’s airports, and the events of last week certainly support the theory.

A Connecticut man last Thursday was arrested on weapons charges after Transportation Security Administration officers at a LaGuardia Airport checkpoint discovered a loaded gun in his carry-on bag, according to federal authorities.

TSA personnel detected the Ruger .38-caliber handgun, which was loaded with six rounds, in the man’s laptop bag. The Fairfield County resident told the officers that he forgot he had the firearm with him. Port Authority Police responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the gun, and cuffed the traveler.

According to TSA, weapons—including firearms, firearm parts and ammunition—are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked luggage if they are properly packed.

The following day, and roughly 10 miles from LaGuardia, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers nabbed a passenger arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport who tried to smuggle approximately 9 pounds of cocaine into the country in a tube sock and computer bag.
