The Richmond Hill farmers’ market will return to Forest Park this fall, City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) announced Tuesday.
Ulrich allocated $25,000 for the popular Forest Park Farmstand, which gives residents direct access to fresh fruit and vegetables from locally-sourced farms. Situated near the Buddy Monument in Forest Park (near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Park Lane South in Richmond Hill), the market kicks-off this Saturday, Sept. 19, and will return with social distancing/CDC guidelines every Saturday through Nov. 21, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The farmstand will offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, which change seasonally. During the summer months, visitors can find produce such as blueberries, peaches, carrots, garlic, cilantro, arugula, radish, mint, mushrooms, tomato and eggs. During the fall season, visitors can find produce such as celery, parsnips, peas, and eggplant. Many fruits and vegetables will be offered during both seasons.
“In 2018, we welcomed the first-ever farmers’ market to Richmond Hill and it continues to be a major success. The Forest Park Farmstand filled a crucial void in Richmond Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods, where residents had to travel great distances to buy fresh produce,” Ulrich said. “I am thrilled to partner with GrowNYC on this project for a third year, giving residents direct access to fresh fruit and vegetables from locally-sourced farmers—especially during these trying times. For so many of the local residents, the return of this year’s farmstand will provide a sense of normalcy.”
NYC Parks Forest Park Administrator Portia Dyrenforth added, “This green market is a crucial source of fresh produce for the Richmond Hill community and we’re excited to welcome residents back to Forest Park’s transformed Buddy Monument entrance. This year, access to fresh vegetables and fruits is more important than ever. We are grateful to Councilman Ulrich for his continued support and advocacy for the return of the Forest Park Farmstand.”
